Fair Use for Educational Media

The Sazae-San Method uses short, isolated audio clips (2โ€“3 seconds in length) and static thumbnail video frames strictly for Japanese language acquisition and spaced repetition study. This usage is transformative and non-substitutional under the Fair Use doctrine of United States copyright law (17 U.S.C. ยง 107).

  • Transformative Purpose: Media streams are dissected into atomic study units for phoneme acquisition and grammatical decoding rather than entertainment.
  • Minimal Extraction: Flashcard reviews use minimal micro-clips strictly bounded to a single sentence dialogue (less than 0.5% of full works).
  • Non-Substitutional: Micro-clips interspersed with spaced repetition questions do not substitute for watching full narrative episodes on licensed streaming platforms.
  • Creator Attribution & Views: When available, long-form Context Watch uses official YouTube IFrame player embeds, directing engagement and metrics to creators.
